Kaiser Permanente Crescent Centre Medical Facility Modernization
The Kaiser Permanente Crescent Centre Modernization project consisted of a complete healthcare lobby renovation of three floors, totaling 30,000 square feet of lobby interiors with revitalizing finishes. This facility in Tucker, Georgia, currently provides adult medicine, pediatric services, OB/GYN care, behavioral health, dermatology, imaging services, pharmacy, and patient after-hours activities such as aerobics, yoga, and patient education seminars.
Our construction encompassed reworking the existing elevator lobbies, department waiting areas, patient check-in areas, existing pharmacy area, and behavioral health area. It was critical that all these services continue to remain uninterrupted which required a ballet of strategic phasing. The scope also included adding additional lab services, blood draw area, OB/GYN services, conference room, and finishes to the existing building stairwells. The facility’s daytime operation hours provided a distinct set of challenges. The Leapley team worked hand-in-hand with the Kaiser Project Managers and our subcontractors to develop a plan of action that would provide an on-time, on-budget, and high-quality delivery of this occupied eleven-phase project while not interrupting the bustling activity in the facility and ensuring minimal impact on patient services.
A large area of liability in healthcare construction is the control and mitigation of construction dust and infection. Leapley knew because this project was occupied that it would be vitally important to prevent construction dust from traveling outside the construction areas and planned for the use of air scrubbers to create negative air pressure within the construction site. At times, the construction was “landlocked” on an interior area of the building with limited means to exhaust air to create a negative environment. Establishing this protocol was critical before we could move forward with demolition and construction. Logistics
Kaiser Permanente Crescent Center provided a unique planning opportunity for the Leapley team. As an occupied renovation, special care had to be taken to ensure the safe delivery of the project while not impacting patient services. All work had to be completed after 7:00 PM and before 7:00 am, outside the facility’s normal operating hours. We also collaborated with Kaiser to develop a multiple phase approach to get enough area for construction while not hindering services.
