IMG College, a division of global sports, fashion, and media giant IMG Worldwide, wanted to create an Atlanta office charged with the passion and energy college sports fans are known for. Leapley entered the game early – during preconstruction – to coordinate with the architect and the rest of the team to get this project into the end zone.
A fast-track build of two Class A high-rise office floors, the finished interior design creates a profound connection with the IMG College brand through the use of iconic materials, textures, and graphics from the world of college sports.
The curve ball
The original project scope was one floor. Halfway through the project the client added another floor and a connecting staircase but didn’t change the completion date. It was a halftime show we will never forget.
The biggest challenge
When the scope changed from one floor to two floors and the connecting staircase was added, the Leapley team faced daunting scheduling and permitting challenges. We worked double shifts to maintain the schedule and managed the inspection process for the staircase permit. The lead time for the staircase fabrication was six months, and the IMG move-in date was two months away. The fire marshal allowed us to erect a fire-rated enclosure around the staircase opening, and the clients moved in on time.
A scoreboard in the elevator lobby shows the elevator’s progress and welcomes visitors to IMG’s offices. The sounds of cheering college fans fill the reception area via a powerful gestural audio-visual display. The floors are covered in real football and basketball leather.
Employees show their individual college team loyalty at custom branded workstations in the open office area, dubbed the “Iron Grid.” Yard markers and hash lines on the carpet and ceiling lighting provide creative wayfinding for the office. The break room is called, “Half Time” and the entry is designated as “Pep Rally.” The community feeling of a big game carries into the conference space, where custom bleachers accommodate large meetings.
