The Associated General Contractors of Georgia (AGC Georgia) recently announced the winners of its 2018 AGC Build Georgia Awards Program, which recognizes association member firms for construction excellence on projects completed throughout Georgia. Leapley Construction Group was awarded first place in its construction group for the Emory Woodruff Memorial Research Building Renovation and the Workplace 2020 JV Project.

“We are very honored to receive such esteemed industry recognition for the Workplace 2020 and Emory Woodruff projects,” Meredith Leapley said President and CEO of Leapley Construction.

Workplace 2020 is a renovation project consisting of an overhaul of a 26-story tower, which is more than three decades old, as well as the other campus buildings and courtyards. These projects take place in one of the largest logistical challenges in Atlanta. Not only is there significant access problems in terms of security measures on campus and staging areas, but there is a constant flow of thousands of people on the campus, which cannot be interrupted. Leapley spends a significant amount of time in planning in order to provide the best possible timeline and logistic plan for each project on campus.

The goal of the Emory Woodruff project was to improve the previous institutional-looking office into a collaborative, colorfully-branded workspace. The project is located in a highly-active building in the middle of the occupied campus during the school year, making this project a logistical feat.

The AGC Build Georgia Awards Program is designed to recognize outstanding achievements by Georgia construction firms and honors the talented and dedicated men and women in the office and field who make up the state’s construction industry. Their skill, integrity, and responsibility combined with a spirit of innovation and tremendous pride produce the buildings that contribute to the quality of life enjoyed by the people who live, work, pray, learn and play in communities throughout Georgia.

General contractors and specialty contractors competed in several categories depending upon the size of their firm, the type of project delivery method used, and the type of construction. Award winners were judged on criteria including innovation in construction techniques, safety performance, use of sustainable building practices, excellence in project management and scheduling, and dedication to client service. Winning firms are formally recognized at the Awards Breakfast planned for June 7-10, 2018.
