Leapley Construction Group was awarded two first-place honors at the Build Georgia Awards last week for the Piedmont Midtown and Norfolk Southern Dispatch Center projects. Selected by the Associated General Contractors of Georgia (AGC Georgia), Leapley was honored at the 2019 AGC Build Georgia Awards Program, which recognizes association member firms for construction excellence on projects completed throughout Georgia.

We are very honored to receive two first-place Build Georgia Awards for Norfolk Southern and Piedmont Healthcare, as well as to be recognized for two others at Cotiviti and Kennesaw State University. These awards are a testament to our dedicated teams and outstanding clients on these amazing projects.

Piedmont Healthcare – 1010 Midtown
Piedmont Healthcare partnered with Leapley Construction for this 8,200-SF project which was a complete renovation of a popular retail space (CB2) into an internal medicine office. This project is one of the latest amenities added to the walkable Midtown neighborhood.

By creating a central core of exam rooms, offices and IT space, angles became a key design concept throughout and work to unite the project. Piedmont Healthcare was a logistically challenging project in an existing high-rise which impacted its retail and residential neighbors – making for a noteworthy construction assignment for the Leapley team.
Norfolk Southern Dispatch Center 2
Norfolk Southern Dispatch Center
Train dispatching at NS has historically been performed by operations centers in each of 8 regions; when the construction completed, Norfolk Southern became a centrally-managed hub for the dispatch team. To keep pace with an evolving industry, NS brought these regions into one centralized Operations center at the Atlanta facility.

The design called for the renovation of 16,000 SF of existing interior space, as well as the installation of exterior steel roof framework to house redundant HVAC units. Unique challenges included facility ‘hardening’, redundant utility services for power, HVAC, and data, and mission-critical components such as security doors, metal grating, and high-end finish materials all sourced from overseas.

The AGC Build Georgia Awards Program is designed to recognize outstanding achievements by Georgia construction firms and honors the talented and dedicated men and women in the office and field who make up the state’s construction industry. Their skill, integrity, and responsibility combined with a spirit of innovation and tremendous pride produce the buildings that contribute to the quality of life enjoyed by the people who live, work, pray, learn and play in communities throughout Georgia.

General contractors and specialty contractors competed in several categories depending upon the size of their firm, the type of project delivery method used, and the type of construction. Award winners were judged on criteria including innovation in construction techniques, safety performance, use of sustainable building practices, excellence in project management and scheduling, and dedication to client service.

Winning firms were formally recognized at the Awards Breakfast on June 8, 2019.
